Oracle Oracle Data Vault Testing

Oracle Data Vault — Self-Driving Test Data for Oracle Fusion

The hidden bottleneck in Oracle testing isn't scripts, it's test data. Oracle Data Vault solves it by continuously harvesting every business object that matters — suppliers, business units, sites, currencies, ledgers, customers, items, employees — and feeding them into every test execution, automatically.

Oracle Data Vault Scenario Categories

Complete scenario coverage across every testing dimension — positive, negative, end-to-end, and edge cases.

Financial Data Objects Harvested

  • Suppliers with bank accounts, sites, and tax registrations
  • Customers with addresses, ship-to/bill-to, and credit profiles
  • Business Units, Legal Entities, and Ledgers
  • Currencies with live conversion rates per BU
  • Chart of Accounts segments and value sets
  • Payment terms, tax codes, and distribution sets

HCM Data Objects Harvested

  • Employees with assignments and payroll relationships
  • Payroll elements and calculation cards
  • Position and job structure
  • Department and location hierarchy
  • Benefit plans and eligibility
  • Absence plans and accrual rules

SCM Data Objects Harvested

  • Items with costing, UOM, and categorisation
  • Organizations, sub-inventories, and locators
  • Price lists and modifiers
  • Blanket and contract purchase agreements
  • Receiving routes and quality specifications
  • Work definitions and BOMs (Manufacturing)

What Makes This 'Self-Driving'

  • Data is harvested on connect — not manually created per test
  • Dependencies resolve automatically (supplier → site → bank → payment method)
  • Fresh data refreshed continuously from your actual tenant
  • Tests pick the right object by type, region, or business rule — not by hard-coded ID
  • Test data never becomes stale after an Oracle patch
  • Zero PII risk — Data Vault can be configured to mask or substitute sensitive fields

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Oracle Data Vault a separate database?

No. Oracle Data Vault is a live read-only index of your existing Oracle Fusion data. It doesn't duplicate or copy your production data into an external store. It maintains an indexed graph of object relationships that tests traverse in real time, always pulling fresh values from your tenant.

How is this different from test data generation tools like Delphix or K2View?

Generic test data tools generate synthetic data or subset production data. Neither works well for Oracle Fusion because Oracle's object model has deep interdependencies (a supplier without a valid bank + payment method + tax registration can't be used for an invoice). Oracle Data Vault understands these dependencies natively — it's built for Oracle, not retrofitted.

Does Data Vault store sensitive data?

Only the metadata needed for test selection (object IDs, descriptors, categorisations). Sensitive fields (SSNs, salaries, bank account numbers) can be masked at harvest time or referenced by ID only, without ever leaving your Oracle tenant. SOX, HIPAA, and GDPR-compliant configurations are standard.

What happens when Oracle ships a quarterly update?

Data Vault auto-refreshes. If a quarterly release adds a new field to suppliers (say a new tax classification), Data Vault picks it up and tests that consume supplier objects automatically see the new field. No manual re-harvest, no stale test data.

Can I use Data Vault for non-test purposes, like analytics?

It's scoped for testing today but the graph is exportable. Many customers use the discovery + vault combination to answer questions Oracle can't answer directly — e.g. 'which BUs have suppliers with expired bank account validation' or 'how many employees are on a payroll element that changed in 26B'.

Does Data Vault work across sandbox, test, and production tenants?

Yes. SyntraFlow maintains a separate Data Vault per connected tenant. You can run tests against your sandbox, verify against your test tenant, and use Data Vault in production for SoD monitoring — all with appropriate access controls for each environment.
