Note on test design: SyntraFlow executes the detailed Oracle Fusion HCM Performance Management UI interactions automatically while presenting the scenario as business-readable test steps for documentation, review and reporting. This scenario is presented as 7 business-readable test steps; SyntraFlow's automation executes approximately 24 underlying Oracle Fusion UI actions to complete it.

Test Objective

This test validates goal creation, assignment, organizational alignment, weighting and inclusion in performance documents, without hard-coding any specific weight percentage as universal.

The scenario should confirm that:

  • goals are correctly created and assigned to the intended worker, whether created by the manager or the worker
  • goals correctly align to an organizational goal where organizational alignment is configured
  • goal weights are correctly validated against the customer's configured total rather than a universal fixed percentage
  • goal dates are correctly validated against the applicable review period
  • goals correctly reflect in, or are removed from, the performance document as configured
  • deliberately invalid submissions — missing goal name, invalid date range, goal outside the review period, unauthorized goal update, and weights below or above the configured total — are correctly rejected or flagged rather than silently accepted

A negative or boundary Goals scenario passes when Oracle correctly enforces the expected weighting, date or security rule; this test does not attempt to certify a specific Oracle application defect, and does not assume a universal goal-weighting percentage — weighting totals, review periods and organizational alignment depend entirely on customer-specific Oracle Fusion configuration. Where an entry or validation appears unexpected or its cause is unclear, it is treated as requiring further investigation and supporting evidence rather than a confirmed conclusion. This page catalogs 25 individual Goals scenarios as a single comprehensive reference rather than as separate indexable pages.

When to Use This Test

  • Functional testing of goal creation, assignment and weighting for a new Oracle Fusion HCM Performance Management implementation
  • Regression testing of goal alignment and weight-total validation after an Oracle quarterly update affecting Performance Management
  • UAT sign-off for goal creation, assignment, organizational alignment, weighting and inclusion in performance documents
  • Baseline goals coverage referenced by Performance Document, Employee Evaluation and Performance Completion within the same Performance Management cluster
  • Comprehensive scenario coverage for teams standardizing on a single Goals regression pack instead of dozens of near-duplicate scripts

Where This Test Fits in the Performance-to-Compensation Process

Goals
Performance Document
Employee Evaluation
Manager Evaluation
Performance Completion

Goals is a foundational scenario family in the Performance Management cluster. It exercises goal creation, assignment, organizational alignment, weighting and inclusion in performance documents, ahead of Performance Document, Employee Evaluation, Manager Evaluation and Performance Completion downstream. Exact goal weighting totals, review period configuration and organizational alignment rules depend entirely on customer-specific Oracle Fusion Performance Management configuration — no universal weighting percentage is assumed.

Preconditions

  1. Oracle Fusion Performance Management access is available to the worker and manager test users.
  2. A representative ${WORKER} is available, along with an assigned ${MANAGER} in Oracle Fusion Core HR.
  3. A valid ${ORGANIZATIONAL_GOAL} is configured for alignment testing, where organizational goal alignment is enabled.
  4. The customer's configured goal weighting total and applicable ${WEIGHT} rules are documented for the target Oracle Fusion environment.
  5. A valid ${REVIEW_PERIOD} and its start/end dates are configured for the current performance cycle.
  6. A user without an authorized relationship to ${WORKER} is available for security testing of unauthorized goal updates.
  7. The performance document for ${WORKER} is in a ${DOCUMENT_STATUS} that allows goals to be created, assigned or updated, per the customer's configured review cycle.

Exact goal weighting totals, review period configuration and organizational alignment rules may vary by Oracle Fusion implementation and customer-specific configuration; no universal weighting percentage is assumed.

Sample Test Data

Goal Name${GOAL_NAME}
Organizational Goal${ORGANIZATIONAL_GOAL}
Weight${WEIGHT}

3
Create or Assign the Goal
Create or assign a ${GOAL_NAME} for ${WORKER}, entering a ${TARGET_DATE} and ${WEIGHT} as applicable.
${GOAL_NAME} / ${TARGET_DATE} / ${WEIGHT}

Missing goal name, invalid date range and weight-total violations are exercised as dedicated negative and boundary scenarios.

The goal is created or assigned correctly, or a deliberately invalid entry is rejected with the expected validation.
4
Align to an Organizational Goal Where Applicable
Where organizational alignment is configured, align the goal to an ${ORGANIZATIONAL_GOAL}.
${ORGANIZATIONAL_GOAL}
The goal correctly links to the selected organizational goal where alignment is configured.
5
Update Goal Progress Over the Review PeriodBusiness assertion
Update the goal's progress and ${GOAL_STATUS} over the course of the ${REVIEW_PERIOD}.
${GOAL_STATUS} / ${REVIEW_PERIOD}

Correctly rejecting an update outside the review period is a passing outcome for negative scenarios, not a failure.

Goal progress and status update correctly across the review period.
6
Verify Goal in Performance DocumentBusiness assertion
Confirm the goal correctly reflects — including its ${WEIGHT} — within ${WORKER}'s performance document once generated, per the configured ${DOCUMENT_STATUS}.
${DOCUMENT_STATUS}
The goal, including its weight, correctly appears in or is removed from the performance document as configured.
7
Verify Goal HistoryBusiness assertion
Review the goal's history of weight, target date and status changes across the review period.

This is the main business assertion for the scenario across the full catalog of 25 Goals variations.

Goal history accurately reflects a valid change, or an expected validation for an invalid one.

Expected Results

Go Beyond the Standard Test with Jarvis AI

The Syntra Standard Test Library defines the core Goals scenario. Jarvis AI can extend this scenario by systematically generating additional Positive, Negative, Boundary and Security variations using customer-specific worker, manager, goal and weighting data available through Syntra DataVault.

Teams do not need to manually construct dozens of near-identical goal scenarios to cover every worker, weight, date and alignment combination. Jarvis uses the standard Goals scenario as the foundation and generates coverage relevant to the customer's environment — these AI-generated variations do not create additional indexable SEO pages.

Rather than maintaining a separate test for every possible goal creation, assignment and weighting condition, SyntraFlow maintains one core Goals scenario and allows Jarvis AI to generate Positive, Negative, Boundary and Security variations using the customer's available worker, manager, goal and weighting test data.

AI-Generated Test Variations

The same Goals business scenario can produce many test variations without creating separate public library pages. Below is a real slice of SyntraFlow's Build Scripts library, filtered to HCM Performance Management.

Positive Scenarios
  • Individual and development goal creation
  • Manager and worker goal assignment
  • Organizational alignment
  • Goal weighting within configured totals
  • Goal progress update and completion
  • Inclusion in performance document
Negative Scenarios
  • Goal weights below the configured total
  • Goal weights above the configured total
  • Missing goal name
  • Invalid date range
  • Goal outside the review period
  • Unauthorized goal update

These are representative examples only. Goal weighting totals, review period configuration and organizational alignment structure can depend on the customer's Oracle Fusion configuration and Performance Management setup — not every Oracle configuration behaves identically.

Generated Using Your DataVault Test Data

Generic test data rarely represents every worker, goal, weight and review-period combination in a real Oracle Fusion HCM Performance Management environment. Where connected, Jarvis can use approved test data available through Syntra DataVault — Worker, Manager, Goal, Organizational Goal, Weight and Review Period — to construct realistic Goals variations relevant to the customer's actual implementation.

Jarvis AI Generates

Standard "Goals" + DataVault (Worker + Manager + Goal + Weight) → Jarvis generates:
Scenario 01 — Manager Assigns Weighted Goal (Positive)
Scenario 02 — Goal Weights Do Not Total Configured Amount (Negative/Boundary)
Scenario 03 — Unauthorized User Attempts Goal Update (Security)
Scenario 04 — Goal Weight Exactly at Configured Total (Boundary)
...

Worker and goal data used in Goals testing are masked or synthetic wherever DataVault is connected — SyntraFlow test scenarios use ${PLACEHOLDER} tokens rather than real worker, goal or weighting data, and where DataVault masking and privacy controls are configured, they apply to the underlying customer test data used to generate variations across the Goals catalog. See /datavault/data-masking/ for how DataVault protects performance data.

Positive and Negative Goals Testing

Positive Testing

Jarvis generates scenarios designed to confirm that Oracle Fusion HCM correctly captures goal creation, assignment, alignment and weighting when the worker, goal and weighting data are all valid.

Authorized Worker/Manager + Configured Weight Total + Valid Dates → Goal Created, Assigned and Weighted Correctly

Negative Testing

Jarvis can also generate scenarios that deliberately violate a weighting, date or security rule to confirm Oracle correctly rejects or blocks the condition rather than silently accepting it.

  • Goal Weights Below Configured Total → Expected Validation Displayed
  • Goal Weights Above Configured Total → Expected Validation Displayed
  • Missing Goal Name → Expected Validation Displayed
  • Invalid Date Range → Expected Data Validation Displayed
  • Goal Outside Review Period → Expected Validation Displayed
  • Unauthorized Goal Update → Access Prevented

DataVault HCM Persona

Rather than generating variations from disconnected field values, Jarvis can draw on a DataVault persona built for goal management — a pre-grouped, internally consistent set of worker, manager, goal and weighting dimensions, so Jarvis constructs realistic Goals scenarios for weighting-boundary testing rather than combining incompatible data.

Persona: Weighted Goal Set Worker
Worker${WORKER}
Manager${MANAGER}
Goal Name${GOAL_NAME}
Organizational Goal${ORGANIZATIONAL_GOAL}
Weight${WEIGHT}
Target Date${TARGET_DATE}
Review Period${REVIEW_PERIOD}

DataVault personas group dependent goal dimensions so Jarvis generates coherent, internally consistent Goals scenarios — including weighting-boundary combinations — rather than arbitrary and potentially unrepresentative field combinations.

Security & Access Variations

Oracle Fusion HCM Performance Management role and hierarchy configuration is customer-specific, so SyntraFlow can exercise goal access under different personas to confirm the customer's own access model behaves as expected, rather than assuming a universal Oracle security model.

Action Status vs. Business Validation

A successful UI interaction does not automatically prove a goal was correctly created, assigned, aligned or weighted — this is illustrative of how SyntraFlow separates action success from business validation; it does not reflect a specific live execution. Because this page aggregates 25 individual scenarios across creation, assignment, alignment, weighting boundaries and negative/security validation, evidence-based failure classification matters most here. When a step or business assertion fails, SyntraFlow's evidence is intended to help classify the likely cause into one of eight categories — DATA_ERROR, CONFIGURATION_ERROR, SECURITY_ERROR, EXPECTED_VALIDATION, INTEGRATION_ERROR, AUTOMATION_ERROR, ENVIRONMENT_ERROR or APPLICATION_ERROR — rather than assuming a defect. For example: Goal weights do not equal 100% correctly rejected — Likely category: EXPECTED_VALIDATION — Evidence: the submitted ${WEIGHT} total did not match the customer's configured weighting total and Oracle Fusion raised the expected validation — Recommended action: confirm the configured weighting total before resubmitting. A failure should not be labeled as an Oracle application defect until data, configuration, security, automation and integration causes have been eliminated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does SyntraFlow assume a universal goal-weighting percentage?
No. Whether goal weights must total 100%, some other configured amount, or are not required to total anything at all, depends entirely on the customer's own Oracle Fusion Performance Management configuration. SyntraFlow's scenarios are designed to validate whatever weighting total is actually configured rather than hard-coding a specific percentage as universal.
How does SyntraFlow test organizational goal alignment?
A dedicated scenario confirms that, where organizational goal alignment is enabled, an individual goal can be correctly linked to an organizational goal and that the link is recorded and displayed correctly. Organizational alignment availability and structure depend entirely on customer-specific configuration; not every implementation enables it.
How does SyntraFlow validate a goal's target date against the review period?
Dedicated scenarios confirm that a goal's target date, and the date range it forms with the goal's start date, are validated against the applicable review period and that a date falling outside the configured range or review period is correctly flagged rather than silently accepted. Exact review period boundaries depend on the customer's configured performance cycle.
Who is allowed to remove a goal from a performance document?
Goal removal from a performance document is only tested where the customer's configured ${DOCUMENT_STATUS} and permissions allow it. SyntraFlow's scenario confirms that removal succeeds when permitted and that the removed goal correctly no longer appears on the document, without assuming removal is always allowed.
How does SyntraFlow classify a failed Goals test?
When a step or business assertion fails, SyntraFlow's evidence is intended to help classify the likely cause into one of eight categories — DATA_ERROR, CONFIGURATION_ERROR, SECURITY_ERROR, EXPECTED_VALIDATION, INTEGRATION_ERROR, AUTOMATION_ERROR, ENVIRONMENT_ERROR or APPLICATION_ERROR — along with supporting evidence and a recommended action. For example, goal weights not equalling the configured total being correctly rejected is likely an EXPECTED_VALIDATION, not a defect. A failure should not be labeled as an Oracle application defect until data, configuration, security, automation and integration causes have been eliminated.
