The practical rule for planning: an agent that drafts a journal or recommends a payment is doing decision support; the posting or the payment run is the action a person or an existing approval workflow authorizes. Keep that boundary explicit when you scope each agent.

Required Permissions and Human Review Points

Oracle's stated model is that agentic applications operate within existing role-based permissions, policies, approvals, and compliance frameworks. An agent does not get a super-user bypass; it acts with the access granted to it, and if a step needs an approval today, it still needs that approval when an agent proposes it. That is the single most important governance fact about ERP agents: their blast radius is bounded by the roles and data security policies you already maintain.

Because ERP agents act on your live configuration, their behaviour is only as good as the setup underneath them. The dependencies that most affect agent output are the same ones that affect ordinary transaction processing: Payables and invoice options, matching tolerances, hold rules, tax setup, chart of accounts and account derivation, expense policies, payment terms, and period status. If a policy is mis-configured, an agent will faithfully apply the wrong policy — so configuration correctness is a prerequisite, not an afterthought.
